Many of the couples I get to work with book me without ever actually having met me in person. That they would have confidence in me and my work so quickly is a total honor for me and makes me want to work all that much harder to make their photos absolutely perfect.

The first time I met Kristy and Greg face-to-face was just last week, when I shot their engagement session. God gave us a beautiful day to run around Lubbock, and we had a fun time. I really can't wait for their wedding in the fall!

The longer I photographed Kristy, the more I thought she looked like Charlize Theron- do you see it? You are gorgeous, Kristy!

I love my brides. Really. Especially this past year...they have all been so much fun to work with and get to know. I blogged Jerrica's wedding a few weeks ago and now here are her bridals!

We shot these in November and though it was chilly, Jerrica had the BEST attitude, and we were able to capture some beautiful light (complimented with a beautiful bride, of course!).

Hi friends! We have been so blessed by people from all over the world (literally) who have chosen to help us with our adoption- and a few of my friends connected me with April Wade, who makes the cutest scarves to help people just like us!

For the next 3 months, she's offering

free shipping on her Etsy site with the code "ANGLIN".

We will receive 40% of the sale- which is incredibly giving of April. This is a great way to grab some fun summer colors for the warm weather headed our way, or even stock up for next year's Christmas gifts.

Here are a few of my favorites from her site:

For several years, Shawn and I have rotated anniversary planning (minus one when I was super pregnant with Knox on Dec. 31st). Each year one of us makes a plan for our "getaway", and the other doesn't find out any of the details until we are there!

We actually love this and it satisfies my every-other-year need for spontaneity (haha). This year was my year to plan. Shawn's request was that we didn't do too much (we tend to jam-pack our vacations with activities), and that we get out of Lubbock.

So...Marfa. It's a small West Texas (like, almost to El Paso West) that can really only be understood after having been there. And even after that I'm not sure. :) Littered with artists and galleries and quirky things of all kinds, you wouldn't expect it just by looking at it. It looks like a tiny, shrinking town. But we ate some wonderful food, saw some incredible art, and even went "camping".

I didn't take a whole lot of photos on my Nikon, but here is what I did. We stayed at El Cosmico in the Imperial Mansion. It was awesome and fun. I initially wanted to stay in the teepees, but since it was January they advised me it might be a little cold.

We ate at so many delicious spots-

The first night, Maiya's, which was our favorite meal. We also hit up Cochineal, Pizza Foundation, and the local grocery store, The Get Go.

We took a tour at the Chinati Foundation and really enjoyed seeing the Judd, Flavin, and Chamberlain works. We also enjoyed seeing all the different types of folks who were also on this tour. :)

We had to go check out the Mystery Lights. I am not typically a believer in things of this nature, but I TOTALLY SAW THEM. It was a little freaky, and this was the best photo I got- shot at 6400 ISO 1/13 2.8.

We saved Prada Marfa for last. We drove and drove until we thought we were lost for sure, and then there it was. The perfect ending to our trip. :)

I loved shooting this session because it was filled with a lot of sentiment- we visited their favorite place for fro-yo- Red Mango, stopped by Gardski's (the site of their first date) and incorporated the Bell Tower at TTU- the place where they got engaged! This couple is so happy and thoughtful- I'm so glad I get to work with them.

On one of their first dates they went to Pei Wei, where Katie got a fortune cookie saying, "The love of your life will appear right before you". We didn't get that same fortune this time but we liked it just the same. :)

the 10,000.00 mountain

Adoptionlissa-anglin2 Comments

I have been meaning to give an update on our adoption process, but have been quite busy with wedding inquiries (which is a huge blessing- many people getting engaged this time of year!). All I can say about it is WOW.

WOW #1: I am now, officially, a crier. I have cried more than I have in my whole life. When I hear a story, a song (most recently this one- isn't our God good?!?), or see a t-shirt order come in. I have been constantly reminded that God is doing this.

We have been extremely blessed and completely overwhelmed (in the best way) at the amount of support we have received by friends, family, and even strangers. To be honest, though- it has been an inner battle for me to accept all of these gifts without pride. The other day my Dad texted me this scripture:

"...don't hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve to be fed." Matt. 10:10

I had shared with him how I struggled to accept all of these very generous gifts without my pride taking control and screaming, "No thanks, we've got this covered!". I wanted people to know that we are willing to work our tails off to make this happen- but even still- the truth is- we don't have this covered. We need help. And it's humbling to watch help happen.

WOW #2: People. Most recently, help has happened through people- from all sorts of backgrounds, influences, and means. In those moments where I am discouraged by the long wait I know we will have to endure, I get to hear some incredible stories and God reminds me that He is making our wait WORTH IT.

One day, a total stranger came into the store because she'd heard we were selling bracelets to raise money for our adoption. She told us that she and her husband had decided to start the adoption process, but never completed it because of different circumstances. Then, one day, she received a call from a friend who said she knew a woman who'd just given birth and did not want the baby. Did they want the baby? Oh yes. And the next day they were adopting.

Another day I received a message from a friend we'd met many years ago at college. She has been a great encouragement to Shawn and I in the past few years as we have pioneered our own businesses, being a successful business owner herself. She asked if we were doing any fundraising, and about 20 minutes after responding to her, we received a $1,500.00 donation. Needless to say, we had another crying-shocked-thank-you-Lord moment.

When we ordered our first batch of Love Africa tshirts, the bill was $450.00. The same day we received a donation for- you guessed it- $450.00.

My friend Alex called me one day to say he wanted to work his tail off for us- and offer up 5 photo sessions at a special rate. All 5 were booked THAT DAY- and it will add another $1000.00 to our fund.

We have received other generous gifts from people we've never even met, just wanting to help out- or people who have adopted themselves. We have already had to make a second order of tshirts, and we are also getting some toddler sizes this time!

WOW #3: The wait and the mountain. As I said before, I almost hesitate to answer the question "so when will you get the baby?". I still hate vocalizing that the current wait is 24-30 months AFTER we submit all our paperwork (which takes 6 months in and of itself). Will we grow tired and weary? Will people forget about us?

But in His way, God is showing me that every second of wait is one that He planned, and I need. Already, he has set a fire in our hearts to give as we have been generously given to. We have met so many people. Our faith has been strengthened.

Right now, we are staring down a $10,000.00 mountain. That is around the amount we will need to do a home study, and finish the dossier (paperwork). As of today we have about $4,000.00 of it. In total, we have raised a little over $7,000.00- some of which has gone to help us make our initial agency payment, and get required physicals other documents. We fully understand the feeling of blessing as we have been able to just write a check for those things. Because we are committed to doing life debt-free, we plan to wait until we have the funds for the next step before we proceed.

So that is where we are at right now. If you are one of those very kind people who have prayed for us, bought a bracelet or tshirt, or donated your time or money- THANK YOU. You have been a true reminder that God is faithful.

And because no blog post is complete without a photo, here are a few pictures of the things that we have been selling!

You can buy them at Culture Clothing (1717 Broadway, Lubbock, TX) or online at:

And, you can keep up with the adoption at our ADOPTION PAGE. We now have a link to where you can make a tax-deductible donation directly through our agency.

UPDATE:

Whoa, literally minutes after posting this, I come across this blog from Give 1 Save 1 Africa: God's Will For Your Wait. So exactly what I needed to hear!

I so enjoyed photographing this wedding- it was perfect in so many ways. Ryan and Jerrica were (and are!) clearly in love, ready to be married. Their friends and family were there being so helpful and loving- and ready to have a great time. We had a beautiful January day and everything just flowed so smoothly. Before every wedding, Shanna and I pray that we will be a blessing to the people we are working with and for that day. This day, they were a blessing to me

Venue: The Legacy Event Center

Gown: Galina Signature, David's Bridal

One of my favorite things about Ryan and Jerrica's day was the Bible that she carried. It has been carried by many generations of brides in Jerrica's family, and each one has signed it after they were wed. What a special heirloom!

family sessions to benefit our adoption by alex m.!

You guys, we have the MOST generous friends.

I mean, really. I have cried more than ever lately as people have blessed us with their donations, service, and support.

A few weeks ago, my friend and fellow photographer, Alex M., called to tell me he was going to delve into family sessions (something which he has never advertised- he is a super awesome and in-demand wedding photographer) JUST FOR US.

If you read his blog at all, you'll understand- Alex knows FAMILY. He has a creative and awesome wife and 4 hilarious kids. They love Jesus and are constantly doing stuff that makes me want to just go hang out with them for a week.

Alex has offered to shoot 5 family sessions and give us all the money. Yup. It's an incredible gift, and a fabulous opportunity for any of you out there who are needing some family photos! (Or maternity, or senior, etc....)

Alex lives in Palestine, TX, which isn't far from Tyler, Longview, Waco and Dallas. Check out the details on his blog HERE.

This is a GREAT price, too- a session AND the digital negatives for $200.00- you can't beat that!

Happy Friday everyone! I'm excited to share this engagement shoot with you for so many reasons. 1) Lindsey is cool, and she makes me want to actually commit to a tattoo. (I have wanted one for a long time but have proven to be a big wuss when it comes to actually getting one.) 2) These two have great style. Hello, Urban Outfitters meets Jeffrey Campbell meets all-the-things-I-love-to-photograph. (P.S. You might notice a little Copper Culture on Lindsey's wrist. Thanks, Lindsey!) 3) They are creative. Lindsey owns her own salon here in Lubbock, Shear Perfection, and we sell Trevor's clothing line, Anchor Free Clothing at our store.

Really and truly, they are great people. And I was super excited when they asked me to photograph their Engagement session.

We had a pretty yet windy day to shoot and thankfully Trevor and Lindsey were up for all the random places I planned to take them. I am in love with these images! Enjoy!
