the baby room - a tour!

lissa-anglin11 Comments

I've been meaning to post a little tour of Knox's room- and finally I put together some finishing touches and it is ready!

To be honest, I had totally selfish motivations with this room. :) I wanted to make a room Shawn and I enjoyed first and foremost- because I know all that Knox will remember are what he sees in pictures. Second, I wanted something very functional for our family, and third- I wanted to create a modern, colorful, yet peaceful space.

I spent a lot of time "researching" on Flickr groups like this one- there are SO many fun and fantastic ideas out there.

I thought it would be easiest to number everything out- so here goes!

These acorns were hung at my Lubbock baby shower- too cute! I have creative friends. :)

Willy thinks this room is an excellent place for a nap.

1. Because we have a small room, I wanted a chair that wouldn't take up much visual space. This is the POÄNG chair from Ikea. It is actually very comfortable- and rocks, too!

2. BÖJA floor lamp- also from Ikea.

3. The fish fabric is from the Patty Young Playdate Collection (called "Goldfish"). I found it from a seller on etsy, and my Mom had it made into a dust ruffle for the crib and a pillow for the chair. She also found an old quilt of my grandmother's which matched perfectly! She had the best quilt squares made into a lightweight baby blanket, which you can see hanging over the chair. There are more quilt squares on the reverse side of the pillow. I love the combination of old and new!

1. My sisters and I all received a "head" from our parents for Christmas- filled with the things we like. Mine contains all things knitting. It may make its way into my office later, but for now it has a home on Knox's shelves.

2. I purchased this old fan for 1.50 at my favorite thrift store.

3. A couple of my vintage cameras.

4. I actually bought these letters before we knew if we were having a boy or girl! They were .25 at Michael's, and I couldn't pass them up- plus I had a pretty strong inclination it was a boy!

5. These are LACK floating shelves from Ikea which I covered in old maps. One of our prayers for this baby is that he will be a good traveler. I also know we'll be able to use the design as he gets older.

6. Antique piggy bank we received as a gift.

7. One of my shower invitations requested that friends bring a book for Knox's library- which I loved! We got so many special books- old and new. The hostesses also gave us the cutest book stamp- it features a cute robot and says "From the Library of Truett Knox".

1. We found these baskets at TJMaxx. They're made of twisted Chinese magazine paper.

2. This is the scripture that Shawn and I selected as our prayer for Knox. It's really important to us that he grows up seeing, hearing, and speaking scripture.

3. I found these fun albums from Memories for Life Scrapbooks on etsy. You can custom order any name, and have her decorate them for you or do it yourself! This is about as close to a real scrapbook as I get...and soon it will be filled with pictures!

I recently found a donut knitting pattern and have been creating these rattles for the many friends I have who are also having babies. They are so much fun to make!

The paper crane mobile was a very simple and inexpensive project. Shawn and I fished the branch out of our alley, and after painting it white, we folded some paper cranes out of scrapbook paper.

1. About 4 months into my pregnancy, I decided to make a baby blanket. Whoa. It took FOREVER. But I'm happy with the results.

2. Love this elephant from blablakids. It was a gift purchased at My Cup of Tea here in Lubbock.

3. One of my clients sent this purple Scottie dog after I posted about a pregnancy dream in which I birthed a purple dog! I believe it came from Vintage Chenille. So cute!

My super-talented sister gave us this handmade quilt for Christmas. It's so soft and has little "A"'s hidden in the squiggles. I can't wait to use it! (P.S. Layne, you are also super-talented!)

1. This is a SkipHop diaper bag. I didn't want anything too huge. It's packed and ready for the hospital!

2. This rack was given to us and painted the same color as the crib.

3. Knox has been given so many fun hats, shoes, and other clothing! I would feature my faves here but I'd rather get him in them first!

One of the things I am excited to use is this Svan bouncer. It's very compact and portable, so we can travel with it and move it around the house easily.

A few more things I'm excited to put to use- swaddle blankets from Aden + Anais, a crinkly noise maker for little hands, our Bum Genius diapers (this is one of the new Elemental designs- thanks Aunt Laynie!), cute pacifiers, and a versatile sling from Seven Slings (thanks Kat!).

I also love our Sprout Shell! I spotted one at the doctor's office one day and went right home and ordered it. It matches our car seat/stroller and how could we not get the one with guitars?!?

Whew! That was quite a bit! We have been given so many wonderful things, and these are just the tip of the iceberg. I expect to be sharing many more of them when this child is actually here! Hope you enjoyed my tour!

what would it be like today?

Just wanted to share these with you all! They are both Christmas-related. You may have seen them on Facebook.

This first video seems like such a good reflection of how we get around and about these days- I especially love the Amazon.com part!

This one is a little more emotional- it includes one of my favorite Bible stories- where Mary goes to visit Elizabeth and John leaps in her womb. Since my friend Shanna is just 3 months behind me, that story really hits home this Christmas!

I have been on "official" maternity leave for a few weeks now, but came out of my cave yesterday to shoot a very time-sensitive session! You may remember Victoria from her wedding a couple of summers ago- she and John now live in California and she is expecting a baby boy in March! She contacted me knowing she'd be in the area during Christmas and I'm so glad I got to capture her new curve! We had insanely gorgeous light- I will be shooting a lot more baby bumps if they are all as much fun as this. Thank you so much, Victoria- you are gorgeous!

waiting for truett knox...

lissa-anglin7 Comments

About month 6, Knox measured a bit small for his expected size, and so the doctors felt like it was necessary to begin monitoring his activity, fluid levels, growth and heart rate. I've been going in for a Non-Stress Test twice a week, with an ultrasound once a week. So far, he's looking great! He is still measuring a little small (around 5 lbs. in weight- smaller than the average 6 lb. normal at 36 weeks)...but all in all should be just fine. I've learned a lot in the process- talking to the doctors and the nurses, and I can't complain about sitting in a recliner watching TV during the NST. :)

You may have seen my post of my friend Hannah Foley and her husband Jeremiah a while back- well, it was our turn this time! While I have shot several "maternity" sessions, I don't do them often, and I have to be honest...they're a bit of a challenge sometimes. Not every female is used to being rounder than normal, even with all the "pregnancy glow" talk- and I was no different. Yet, I knew I needed to have this time documented. In the midst of planning for the shoot, I also realized we didn't have any photos of us with our dogs- so of course, we added that to the mix. Let me tell you, pregnant photographer + a guy used to posing for band shoots + 2 unruly Scottie dogs = not an easy task! But Hannah did a great job- and guess what? She's expecting too!

Here are some of my favorites- all images copyright Hannah Katherine Photography...

Annnnd, here's a quick movie I made with more!

Help me out!

I'm planning on making an album with these images and a few words for Knox. Knowing myself, I haven't started a "baby book" and don't think I will- since it will most likely go unfinished! Instead, I'd rather create small clips of time for him in albums and journals. I'm wanting to include what life was like for us while we were waiting on him in this book.

Any suggestions? What would you include in a book to your future child?

I know I'd like to add some "current event" info- what would you consider to be an event of importance from April-Dec. of 2010??

I'd love to hear your ideas! Please comment below!

lissa-anglin2 Comments

I have yet another gorgeous and fun couple for you today! This is Patrick and Cody, and they are just awesome. I had such a fun time walking around and talking with them- and we had a beautiful day to do it! Here are some of my favorites from their session. We started out the shoot in that beautiful golden light of November:

These two had their first date at Gardski's so I suggested we stop by there for sentimental reasons.

Way to make an alley look awesome, you two! Congrats!

lissa-anglin3 Comments

It's time for the November installment of "Lissa Likes"! Since it's the last day of the month (as well as me 27th birthday- eek!), this list is going to look a little bit like my Christmas list too. :)

1. All things Christmas. We kept the decorations pretty simple this year, since there's no telling how much time we'll have to take them all down if baby Knox arrives early. BUT, I LOVE our tree...and the cinnamon spice candles...and of course the Christmas music. My all-time favorite:

2. Ketti Bags. I love these stylish camera bags! Maybe it could double as a diaper bag?? HERE is their site.

3. This Nikon mug from Photojojo. There has been a Canon coffee mug floating around for a while, but now there's finally one for us Nikonians!

4. Sun Harvest muffins. Sun Harvest is the newest grocery store in Lubbock- located in the Kingsgate shopping center. I've been shopping there the past several weeks, and we have loved the fresh selection of produce and reasonably-priced meats and seafood. One Sunday I'd run out of my pregnancy-emergency snacks I usually stash in my purse for those times when I HAVE...TO...EAT...SOMETHING...and a lady walked by me with a huge tray of blueberry muffins straight out of the oven. I wanted one SO. BAD. But I told myself no...we were almost done. That's when I saw the .99 sign. And I grabbed one. And it was delicious. I won't tell you how many more I've consumed since that impulsive day. :) While I'm at it, I'll go ahead and include Chipotle and Einstein Bros. Bagels to my list since they're both recent LBK arrivals.

5. Jon Acuff + Dave Ramsey. As you know, we have been Dave-Ramsey-brainwashed. We also love the book "Stuff Christians Like" by Jon Acuff (HERE's his blog). So when Jon Acuff writes a book about Dave Ramsey, we buy it. Immediately. (In cash, within our budget constraints of course!) Shawn and I listened to the audiobook on our way home for Thanksgiving and laughed the whole way. If you listen to the Dave Ramsey Show or have gone to Financial Peace University, you'll find something in this book hilarious. Guaranteed.

6. Ravelry. HOW have I not known about this awesome knitting/crocheting online community? There are so many great resources and patterns here...I'm a little obsessed. My username is "lissaanglin" if you would like to be my friend. :)

7. Closure. I'm officially on maternity leave until March, which doesn't mean I won't be working- it just means I won't be shooting. After a pretty intense summer and fall, it feels SO GOOD to have a nice break (not to mention I'm moving a lot slower these days). I love my clients and they have all been so helpful and cooperative in getting their wedding albums, print orders, and other items ordered and sent out. 97% of the brides + grooms I shot this last year already have their wedding albums in hand- which is huge! Honestly, though- I'm ready to get refreshed and take a step back from work to focus on family for a while. I know I'll be ready to go in March when I start back- hopefully with a new fervor and ideas!

This also means that for a while this blog will be full of personal posts- hope you're ready! I still have a few touches to make to the nursery, but hopefully soon I'll get to share that project with you all!
