Art, décor, family and photography- it's all part of me!

happy father's day, shawn!

This is your 2nd Father's Day. I always knew you would be a wonderful Daddy. We have experienced so much this past year with our boy- setting up and learning to run a new business, babysitting, daycare, travel, weddings, holidays, changes in income, spritual challenges- I can't believe how solid you've been through it all. Then again, I can. I know you're trusting God with every wonderful, scary, new, exciting bit of it. And I am so, so, thankful for that. So is Knox. Thanks for being a place to laugh and relax. Thank you for providing for us and serving us everyday. (P.S.- this guy served me breakfast in bed yesterday!) We love you so much! Happy Father's Day!

These are blurry, but also perfect. These two play fast & furious.

Allen + Paige were married at one of my favorite venues in Lubbock- McPherson Cellars. The colorful and funky architecture perfectly complimented this fun, perfect-for-each-other couple. Throughout the day I noticed so many special touches that Paige had made sure to incorporate- sentimental table cards, customized cakes and even an ad lib worksheet for the guests. We hosted the Fancy Booth for this event, and got some of the funniest expressions I've ever seen- but you'll have to wait for another blog post to see those! Here are some of my faves from Allen + Paige's day.

I've been looking forward to this Engagement Session ever since I first met Zach + Cassie months ago! These two are so much fun and truly love the Lord- and I am so excited to get to capture this special time in their lives. After attending a wedding out at the Fulford Barn in Brownfield, TX, they decided it would be the perfect location for their Engagement session- and I couldn't agree more! The Fulford Barn is one of my favorite outdoor wedding venues in the Lubbock area. We had a HOT day, but the grounds were beautiful, and I enjoyed the company of Zach + Cassie so much!

TTU Alumni Alex + Kendall live in Houston but wanted to shoot their engagement pictures at the place it all began- the Texas Tech campus! So, they made a special trip down and we planned a session very reflective of Lubbock. Of course, the West Texas weather decided to come along, and during this session, we experienced pretty cloud cover, crazy winds, beautiful sunlight, and yes...even rain. Through it all, they had the BEST attitudes, and I was so thankful to be working with such fun people. Alex is a huge TTU sports fan, and by a stroke of luck we were able to get into Jones Stadium for a few shots.

Thanks so much, you two, for a fun session! Congratulations!

you are cordially invited....

to the First Friday Art Trail at Culture Clothing this Friday! This will be out 2nd month on the Trail, and I am so excited to be exhibiting some of my own work from overseas trips.

I have to be honest, I've never publicly displayed any of my non-portrait related work and I'm a bit nervous about it! It was a lot of work to put together the perfect collections, and now I want to show it off! :)

If you've never been on the Trail, I highly recommend it- it is so much fun and there is a free trolley that will take you to each venue.

Along with my work from China and Puerto Rico, artwork from Maisie Alford and Val Brown will be displayed at our store. And if you haven't been by to check out our store yet, now is the perfect time!

It is THIS Friday- 6:00-9:00 pm.

Here are a few quick pictures I snapped on my phone of what I'm showing. Hope to see you there!

Where do I start with this couple?!? I have known Eric for, pretty much, ever. We were the same age, our sisters were the same age, small town...so it wasn't suprising. It wasn't until my junior-ish year in high school that I realized just how cool Eric was. I mean, he was hilarious! I'm so thankful that he was there to make me laugh at that point in my life.

It's been a while since then (10 years to be exact). I hadn't kept up with Eric as well as I wish I would have, but when I saw that his new fiancé was wanting to set up and Engagement Session I. was. pumped. I had so many questions about Kristin and wondered what she would be like- and hanging out with them just this one evening, I was amazed at how perfectly God had made them for each other! He jokes, she laughs- she explains, he listens. It was so much fun to see them together. And I took a lot of photos! Here are just a few of my many favorites.

From the bottom of my heart- congrats you guys! So happy for you!

Holy cow, Kristin, you are gorgeous.

When Ashley contacted me about her engagement session- she had one must-have- shooting at Jones Stadium! In fact, she'd already contacted TTU, made reservations, and gotten custom printed jerseys for herself and her fiance. Pretty impressive. We shot on one HOT day here in Lubbock and even included their Maltese, Ernie, and English Bulldog, Spanky (who were both very well-behaved, I might add). Here are my favorites!

Get ready all your Pintrest-ers! You are going to love this wedding. These guys totally outdid themselves with special handmade details that spoke to their personalities and style- and of course, I loved photographing it. Beyond all that, though- I was totally blessed by Ben, Shelby, and their families. They are God-loving, fun, graceful people and I felt so honored to be a part of their day. After it was all said and done, I was saying goodbye to Ben's parents (whom I've known for a long time), and his Dad said in the most genuine way, "Thank you for all you've done for our family". I felt so thankful to be working with people who really grasped my vision for this little business of mine- to capture the most important parts of people's lives- the relationships, the places and things, and the beauty in it all. Here are just a few (haha) of my many favorites from Ben + Shelby's wedding.

Ceremony: Square House Museum Conway Community Chapel, Panhandle, TX

Reception: Carson County Veteran's Memorial

Wedding Gown: Oleg Cassini

Groom/Groomsmen: Louis Raphael, Groom's vest sewn by his mother

Bridesmaids: David's Bridal

Florist: Marcie Williams

Catering: The Bohemian Kitchen (THE BEST wedding food I've ever had- EVER! If you are in the Amarillo area, check them out!)

Hair/Makeup: Trisha Barbosa

How cute are these puffed heart boutonneirs?

Ben + Shelby's first look was quite a special one. I could tell the importance of what was about to happen was really hitting Ben. When Shelby entered, all tension was replaced with excitement! Here's a note they wrote about the first look to parents of the bride + groom who may not be all that excited about a first look- I thought it was helpful:

Parents: It allows the pictures to be taken before the wedding while everyone is looking fresh and all pics can be scheduled so no one has to sit and wait and the couple can head to the reception and not keep guests waiting. The couple also can keep the moment special and private and really savor it not have it while so many are looking on and they can't talk to each other. It also allows them to be emotional in private so they can enjoy the ceremony more.

Ben's grandfather was a photographer in the 1950's through the 1980's and he always encouraged doing this and felt like he got better pictures of the couple and their reactions doing it before the ceremony.

Ben's Dad officiated the ceremony and so it was extra special. There was not a dry eye in the room, including Madi (I shot her senior pictures in August).

The details were amazing- hundreds of handmade paper flowers covered the tables along with colorful florals in vintage tins.

They had these mason jars sandblasted with 6 different custom designs- they were so cool!

Congrats you two! Thanks so much for letting me capture your special day!

I'd been looking forward to this wedding ever since I shot Aaron + Melissa's Engagement Session a while back. These two are totally genuine and thoughful- it was clear that they were truly excited to be married. I will never forget the emotion in Aaron's expression as he watched Melissa walk down the aisle and witnessing Melissa's positive attitude and contentment in being exactly where she wanted to be that day. They had planned their wedding with lots of personal touches and I loved getting to be a part of it! Here are my favorites from their big day!

Wedding Gown: Sottero and Midgley

Groom/Groomsmen's Suits: Pronto Umo

Florist: Floral Affairs

Cake: United Market Street

Catering: Top Tier

Venue: Merket Alumni Center @ TTU

DJ/Video: Express Unlimited

Hair: Jessica Chacon-Hernandez

Coordinator: Tammy, A Night To Remember

Since it was Cinco de Mayo, they hired a Mariachi band, and it was a total hit. I think they were playing "La Bamba" for the couple here.
